Osteopathy

Osteopathy can help effectively treat back pain, neck pain and many other musculoskeletal symptoms by understanding the origin of your pain.

Many common physical symptoms can be successfully treated using gentle, manipulative osteopathic techniques, including sciatica, whiplash, headaches caused by neck pain and arthritic pain.

Osteopathy was the first complementary healthcare profession to be given statutory regulation by the government. All our osteopaths are registered with the GOsC and are members of other associations including the iO, OSCA, BMAS, and NSCA.

Using various techniques, osteopathy treats the cause of your pain rather than the symptoms. For example, rather than being the result of a single incident, most back and neck disorders tend to result from a mixture of poor posture, faulty body mechanics, stressful living and working habits, loss of strength and flexibility, and a general decline in physical fitness. Months or years may pass before a combination of these factors finally results in an actual problem.

Osteopathy dramatically changes the way that the pain is managed. It shifts the emphasis from concentration on the acute phase when pain occurs, to the long-term prevention process. The specific techniques used can help alleviate pain and discomfort from most parts of the body.

Osteopathic treatment delivers short and long-term benefits, and can involve techniques including soft-tissue massage, specific joint manipulation, ultrasound therapy, Shockwave therapy, electrotherapy and rehabilitative exercises (such as Pilates).

A comprehensive approach to healthcare

One vital component of a good osteopathic treatment plan is to make sure that once you are in good health, you remain that way. It may feel great when your practitioner has taken all your pain away, but it will probably come back unless the other contributing factors are addressed.

This is why I as a clinician believe in active healthcare. My philosophy is that to enjoy the best of long term health we need to keep our bodies – and our minds – as active as possible.

I treat people of all ages – from babies and children right through to the elderly – helping with maintenance and prevention, to ensure that patients overcome the everyday aches and pains that even the fittest among us can encounter. To do this, I offer everything from advice and treatment through to prevention and rehabilitation programmes.

I also work with businesses to help them maintain a healthy workforce and reduce time lost through common work-related ailments such as back pain, and with professional sports teams and individual athletes to prevent and remedy sports injuries.
